Archaeological excavation may be required when previously unknown sites are recovered during development. Equally, a known and recorded monument may also require excavation under such circumstances if it is threatened by development or it is damaged by other means. Archaeological excavation is the systematic recording and removal of layers of soil, deposits, structures and artefacts by a qualified archaeologist. Although excavation is destructive, it is carried out in a controlled manner to preserve that site (s) by record so that all information will remain available after the site has completely disappeared. Post-excavation analysis and report writing is also an essential part of excavation. We will carry out these excavations for private developers, local authorities and state bodies, completing these assessments using experienced personnel to a high standard at low costs.
